Shoot and View Magnificent Scenes Every Time with Intelligent Shooting Guide/Selection Playback
The new Intelligent Shooting Guide function helps you get magnificent shots by displaying a text message in the LCD monitor, telling you which settings are best for the current shooting conditions. With Intelligent Selection Playback, poor or inadvertent shots (such as shots of the ground or overly dark scenes) are skipped and all normal scenes are played while viewing.
Advanced O.I.S. Reduces Camera Shake
Panasonic's Advanced Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) suppresses the effects of hand shake as you shoot. The system uses gyrosensors to detect hand shake, then shifts a lens and adjusts the optical axis to compensate. This all happens a remarkable 4,000 times per second. And because the system is optical, no image quality is lost. Thanks to Advanced O.I.S., the images you capture look incredibly clear, sharp and beautiful on a big TV screen.

A powerhouse of optical design technology, Olympus' has developed a new Dual Super Aspherical (DSA) lens element, constructed using proprietary Olympus technology. This offers a powerful 5x optical zoom lens to be snugly housed within the Mju 840's sleek camera body measuring only 24mm thick. Furthermore, the revolutionary lens design has ensured that the Mju 840 produces uncompromising image quality for a camera sleek and slim enough to slide into a pocket. Offering sharp, high-contrast imaging to the periphery of the image field, the lens complements the 8 megapixel CCD image sensor and exclusive Olympus TruePic III image processor ensuring high image quality and vibrant colour.
5x optical zoom in a sleek, slim (24 mm) body
The light, slimline Mju 840 has a thickness of only 24 mm, yet packs a 5x optical zoom lens that offers the equivalent of 36-180mm zoom performance. This has been achieved through Olympus' development of revolutionary Dual Super Aspherical (DSA) lens elements, each doing the work of several conventional elements, making it possible to create extremely compact yet powerful zoom lenses. Historically, DSA lens elements have been very thin in the centre making them difficult to manufacture. Olympus, a leading lens designer and manufacturer, has utilised breakthrough proprietary technology to develop a high-performance DSA lens element that enables the camera to offer 5x optical zoom and outstanding image quality in an exceptionally slim, compact body.
The Mju 840 boasts a powerful Dual Shakeproof CCD-shift and high ISO image stabilisation system that works together to correct camera shake and subject motion blur, ensuring crisp, sharp image reproduction.
The Mju 840 also features Face Detect & Shadow Adjust Technology to ensure that both foreground and background are exposed perfectly. Unlike face-detection systems that set focus and exposure only for the face, Olympus Face Detect & Shadow Adjust Technology balances the exposure to include the face and the background independently from one another. This results in an image that appears just as it would be seen with the human eye.

Offering robust shockproof, waterproof, and pressure-resistant construction, the new sleek and stylish frame is not only ideal for capturing those perfect party moments but it takes outdoor use and underwater adventure to a new level with its new Underwater Movie mode.
The camera's feature set has also evolved since the introduction of its predecessor, the Tough 795SW, and now includes a 3.6x optical zoom lens that brings 28mm wide-angle shooting capability to the Tough series for the first time. Perfect for photographing vast landscapes and groups of people, the extended wide-angle view is also great for shooting underwater. High-quality, high-definition imaging is provided by a 10-megapixel CCD and an exclusive Olympus TruePic III image processor.
Even more rugged, impact- and pressure-resistant structure
A new impact-absorbing mechanism has also been developed to improve impact resistance and further protect the mirror frame. Positioned between the body and the mirror frame, the new mechanism enables the Tough 1030SW to pass drop-impact tests from a height of two metres, or higher than eye level for the average adult male. The perimeter of the body is further protected by a stainless steel frame capable of withstanding pressures of up to 100 kgf .
Waterproof to a depth of 10 metres, snowproof to -10C
Reinforced to withstand water pressure at all key points, the Tough 1030SW is waterproof to depths of up to 10 metres, enabling divers or snorkellers to enjoy the world of underwater photography without using a protective housing. Further, the Tough 1030SW captures true-to-life underwater colour in movies as well as still pictures, with the new Underwater Movie mode.

Fashioned for everyday punishment, the Tough 1030SW is the toughest camera on the market yet. Offering robust shockproof, waterproof, and pressure-resistant construction, the new sleek and stylish frame is not only ideal for capturing those perfect party moments but it takes outdoor use and underwater adventure to a new level with its new Underwater Movie mode.
The camera's feature set has also evolved since the introduction of its predecessor, the Tough 795SW, and now includes a 3.6x optical zoom lens that brings 28mm wide-angle shooting capability to the Tough series for the first time. Perfect for photographing vast landscapes and groups of people, the extended wide-angle view is also great for shooting underwater. High-quality, high-definition imaging is provided by a 10-megapixel CCD and an exclusive Olympus TruePic III image processor.
Even more rugged, impact- and pressure-resistant structure
A new impact-absorbing mechanism has also been developed to improve impact resistance and further protect the mirror frame. Positioned between the body and the mirror frame, the new mechanism enables the Tough 1030SW to pass drop-impact tests from a height of two metres, or higher than eye level for the average adult male. The perimeter of the body is further protected by a stainless steel frame capable of withstanding pressures of up to 100 kgf .
Waterproof to a depth of 10 metres, snowproof to -10C
Reinforced to withstand water pressure at all key points, the Tough 1030SW is waterproof to depths of up to 10 metres, enabling divers or snorkellers to enjoy the world of underwater photography without using a protective housing. Further, the Tough 1030SW captures true-to-life underwater colour in movies as well as still pictures, with the new Underwater Movie mode.
